Dave Chappelle is clapping back at the critics.

The controversial comedian gave context to why he owns tens of millions of dollars in actual estate in Yellow Springs, Ohio, in a new attribute in Bloomberg magazine.

Householders in Yellow Springs turned involved after Chappelle began obtaining big swaths of authentic estate in their compact city.

“With the decrease of Antioch Higher education many yrs in the past, Yellow Springs shed its cultural anchor,” Chappelle’s rep instructed the outlet on behalf of the comic. “My desire has usually been in restoring the cultural and creative economic climate Antioch helped to foster and which manufactured Yellow Springs a haven for art, songs, lifestyle and academia.”

Some people in the city spoke out about their fears with Chappelle’s true estate purchases in their county.

According to Bloomberg, a resident shared that the comic is “a force which is turning us into the spot that we’re all seeking to keep absent from.”

Chappelle expended most of his adolescent a long time with his mom in Washington, D.C., but lived with his father in Yellow Springs in middle school.

Chappelle acquired a residence in Ohio in the late ’90s and moved back again whole time in 2004, according to the outlet. He stepped absent from his Comedy Central present about the time he remaining Hollywood for the Midwest.

He then commenced getting up actual estate in Ohio. In 2020, he bought 8 households in Greene County, bringing his full to 20, according to the outlet.

In November 2020, Chappelle appeared on “Saturday Night time Dwell” and discussed the condition of his tiny city soon after the coronavirus pandemic strike, prompting businesses to shut and individuals to continue to be indoors.

“My town was dying,” he said at the time, so “I did reveals in my neighbor’s cornfield, and these shows were very effective and may have even aided save the city.” 

He also stated in his 2020 SNL monologue, “The neighborhood farmers — my neighbors — begun to complain that my shows have been much too noisy — in a cornfield!”

Chappelle mentioned the city meetings were “embarrassing,” which stirred resentment. 

“I resented that these state farmers could determine a person like me’s destiny. Individuals don’t are entitled to to do that. They haven’t found ample. They really do not know everything,” he stated at the time, for each Bloomberg.

Chappelle’s outdoor comedy exhibits reportedly commissioned “$12 million in immediate and indirect economic action for the state of Ohio, which include $4 million for the village.”

In accordance to Bloomberg, at the time, Matthew Cole, the area’s only CPA, wrote in a letter, “A couple local companies would not exist right now if it weren’t for the demonstrates.”
